FedEx pilot detained in China before commercial flight

Last week in China, a FedEx pilot was detained after items were found in his checked bag before he boarded a commercial flight. FedEx said former United States Air Force pilot Todd A. Hohn was later on released, and it is working with Chinese authorities to know what happened at the airport in Guangzhou.

On September 12, Hohn was detained after pellets used in imitation air guns were found in his checked bag. Chinese authorities are claiming that Hohn was carrying ammunition illegally and according to the reports and they have opened a criminal investigation.

As per the FedEx, pilot was later released, but his situation is unknown. It was reported that Hohn was moved to a hotel and told that he can’t leave mainland China until the investigation is over.

In a statement, a company spokeswoman said, ‘We are working with the apt authorities to gain a better understanding of the facts.’

The incident comes with FedEx already caught up in trade tensions between China and the United States.

FedEx CEO Fred Smith, this week blamed slower global financial growth on trade uncertainty. On Wednesday, shares of FedEx fell 12.9{6c2ee02bcd8e4babb54279c3ba0da46f03ed822bc96c85cd54ee7f8408144ace}; their worst day since the year 2008, after the Memphis, Tenn., company reported disappointing periodical profit and cut its estimate of full-year income.

Moreover, earlier this year, Chinese technology giant Huawei complained about deliveries that were misrouted by FedEx. In June, soon after that, FedEx sued the trade Department to discontinue enforcement of export rules that restrict shipments to Huawei as well as other entities. So, Huawei is on a catalog of companies barred from receiving U.S. technology without an exceptional license from the Commerce Department.
